South Australian electronic duo PINES return with new EP DANCER, another collection of soul-warming tracks that hit just right.
Seen as the spiritual and sonic successor to PINES’ 2024 EP SUN, this latest release builds on the foundation of their two albums Dreamcycle and Life As We Know It and pushes the duo of Adam and James into new sonic territory.
“With this record, we really want to invite people to put their phones in their pockets and just let the music take over,” explains Adam Dormand. “We wanted to create something that transforms and transports you – our core goal has always been to create soundtracks for your real life and your tangible experiences, rather than your digital one. We want you to feel the texture of the world around you and the emotion that is borne of a human experience.”
James Kenneally adds, “At this stage in our career, we’ve learned to trust the initial spark. We wanted DANCER to feel organic—not just in the sounds we used, but in how it was built, the arrangements and the sequencing. We leaned into the imperfections and the humanness of sampling; it’s those tiny flaws, the grain in a field recording, or the grit in a synth texture that make a track feel like it’s breathing.”
The six-track release includes the previously released singles ‘Chosen Ones’, featuring the vocals of CLYPSO, and euphoric album opener ‘Closer To You’, along with focus track ‘Summer Love’, a house-infused club explosion made for the dancefloor.
Another of the EP’s highlights is ‘Bay of Martyrs’, a Bonobo-esque three and a half minutes of sonic bliss with an undercurrent of urgency.
