Two years on since their last visit, Ash returns to Australian shores to celebrate the 30th anniversary of their seminal debut album, 1977.
Released in 1996, the album takes its name from the decade the band members were born in and the year Star Wars: A New Hope hit cinemas. Produced by Owen Morris (Oasis, the Verve) at Rockfield Studios in Wales, the album was voted by NME as one of ‘The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time’ in 2013.
Considered a classic of the ‘90s alt-rock genre, the record was written while the group were still teens, going on to sell over 2 million copies and topping the UK Albums Chart.
Fans heading along can expect to hear the album performed in full, meaning hit singles ‘Girl From Mars’, ‘Kung Fu’, ‘Angel Interceptor’, ‘Goldfinger’ and ‘Oh Yeah’ will all get a look in.
Ash’s 1977 30th anniversary tour commences in Western Australia with shows at Perth’s Rosemount Hotel on Friday 4 September and Fremantle’s Freo Social on Saturday 5 September. The band follows with shows at Adelaide’s Lion Arts Factory on Tuesday 8 September, Brisbane’s The Tivoli on Thursday 10 September, Melbourne’s Northcote Theatre on Friday 11 September and finally Sydney’s Metro Theatre on Saturday 12 September.

Founded by singer and guitarist Tim Wheeler, bassist Mark Hamilton and drummer Rick McMurray in 1992, Ash soon found themselves the toast of the UK alt-rock scene with the release of their 1996 debut album, 1977.
Across their more than 35-year career, Ash have released nine albums, two of which topped the UK Albums Chart, earned a slew of Top 10 UK Indie Chart singles and toured the globe countless times.
Still releasing new music (2025 saw the release of their ninth album, Ad Astra), Ash’s legacy continues to grow, with this nostalgia-fueled tour shaping up as one not to miss.
