Public Image Ltd (PiL) have announced a series of special Australian and New Zealand shows as part of their global This Is Not… The Final PiL Tour.
This is the first time PiL have performed in Australia since 2013 and marks their return to New Zealand for the first time since 1989.
The John Lydon-fronted group, which emerged from the shadow of the Sex Pistols, took the world by storm in the late ‘70s with their avant-garde take on rock.
The current line-up features OG member John Lydon (vocals) alongside long-standing members Bruce Smith (drums), Lu Edmonds (guitar) and Scott Firth (bass), with the quartet ready to deliver their edgy post-punk creations.
PiL’s tour kicks off in New Zealand at Auckland’s Powerstation on Wednesday 20 January. Lydon and co then make their way to Australia for gigs at Brisbane’s The Tivoli on Friday 22 January, Sydney’s Enmore Theatre on Saturday 23 January, Melbourne’s The Forum on Sunday 24 January and Adelaide’s The Gov on Tuesday 26 January, wrapping things up at The Astor in Perth on Thursday 28 January.

Formed by Lydon in 1978, PiL redefined the post-punk sound, fusing genres such as dub, rock, electronics and avant-garde experimentation into a fireball of anti-establishment rhetoric.
Between 1978 and the band’s eventual split in 1992, PiL released eight albums, including their acclaimed third record The Flowers of Romance, which peaked at #11 on the UK Albums Chart, PiL’s highest ever chart postion.
Since reforming in 2009, PiL have released three more albums and continued to tour sporadically, with their upcoming Australian and New Zealand return following sold-out shows across Europe and North America.
Fans can expect a setlist spanning PiL’s formidable catalogue – including groundbreaking early works like Public Image and Metal Box.
