Tarntanya/Adelaide-based five-piece Any Young Mechanic have dropped thier long awaited debut album, The Modern Show is Ruining the Foot.
Released via Warner Records/23 Recordings, the album includes the previously released singles ‘Captain And Compass’, ‘Pretty Strange World’, ‘My House Divides’, ‘There’s A New Place On The Market’ and ‘Snug Barber’.
The record was captured live without edits, with the indie folk outfit’s Allan McBean (upright bass) having this to say about the release, “From the clockwork propulsion of ‘Snug Barber’ to the unconfined, dissonant colours of ‘Barn Burning,’ these 12 tracks represent the range of sounds that excited us, live in a room together, nearly three years ago.”
He also had this to say about the focus track ‘Write You Wrong’, “Although there’s plenty of room for dancing, ‘Write You Wrong’ is a real track three ballad, featuring some of Sam’s most at once introspective and imagery laden lyricism. As the strings reach their droning fever pitch, I try to do a sort of Richard Davis on Astral Weeks thing on bass. Anyway, let’s not flatter ourselves, and focus on the topic at hand, we hope you enjoy our record! Again turning to Van, ‘Turn up your radio and let me hear the song!’”
The Modern Shoe Is Ruining the Foot arrives as Any Young Mechanic’s career has gained momentum with their first five singles garnering more than 25,000 Spotify playlist additions and the band earning support from BBC 6 Music, BBC Radio 2, Radio X, triple j, Double J and FBi Radio, while drawing praise from NME, The Independent, CLASH, Rolling Stone Australia, The Line of Best Fit, DIY, Wonderland, Atwood Magazine and Far Out Magazine.
Any Young Mechanic has toured extensively this year, performing across the UK, Europe and Australia, also becoming the first band to play Reading & Leeds Festival without releasing a note of music. Fingers crossed Australia gets a tour announcement soon.
