Muso on Muso: Purée & The Tullamarines

South Australia is being represented bigtime at BIGSOUND 2025. Two acts performing at the four-day showcase are emerging guitar acts Purée and The Tullamarines. Ahead of their appearances at the Brizzy event, the two bands interviewed each other for The Note, chatting about who they want to see at BIGSOUND, the best show they ever played and how many naps they expect to take over the four days.

PURÉE ASK, THE TULLAMARINES ANSWER

What does playing BIGSOUND mean to you?

It’s a huge moment for us. Being part of BIGSOUND is something we’ve dreamed about since we started the band. It feels like a celebration of everything we’ve worked toward. It’s going to be a really good opportunity to reconnect with all the friends we’ve made across state lines over the last few years, which is maybe the most exciting part.

Out of all the artists playing BIGSOUND, who do you wish you were the most and why?

Purée. Why? Three words: Super. Luscious. Moustaches.

How many naps do you expect to take across the BIGSOUND week?

One for every existential crisis. We’re talking double digits here.

What is the best show you have played?

We played a hometown show in Adelaide earlier this year that really stuck with us. We were opening for Ball Park Music, one of our collective favourite artists and one of the main inspirations behind us starting our own band. It was one of those moments when you just look around and go, ‘holy hell, we are just so lucky to be playing music with our best friends and sharing it with others’.

If you were on a sinking boat and you only had two life jackets, which member of Purée would you save and why?

Counter offer: we shave off their moustaches and Jack’s silky long hair. Using the power of friendship, we fashion an impervious seal from the aforementioned materials, plug up the hole and sail off into the horizon together. Mimosas on the beach by sunset.

THE TULLAMARINES ASK, PURÉE ANSWER

If you could have any Bigsound artist cover your song and completely reinvent it, who would you choose and why?

We’d LOVE to see Heartline do a metal version of one of our songs. We adore their sound and it would be so elite and completely left field to hear something like ‘Oh Boy’ in a metal format.

What are some of your band’s rituals before shows as a band or personally and how does it make a difference to your live set going smoothly?

We don’t have a particular ritual as such, but we just make sure that we’re together at least 20 minutes before we get on so we can just be amongst one another and feed off each other’s energy.  A few “You feelin’ good?” comments with a “fuck yeah” answer go a long way for us.

What song are you most keen to play at BIGSOUND and why do you love it?

Probably our new one, ‘Go’. It’s one of our favourite songs we’ve ever written and has such good energy to it. A real bouncer, if you will. Always really feel this one on stage.

How do you get your moustaches so luscious?

Coconut oil and special black-market pills we get off Temu. Liams still tryna push one out.

What are your dreams for the future?

A headline tour in another country is a huge dream for us and something we’ve always talked about. Maybe a festival headline? Overall, we just want to make this our life. Every day, every night, live and breathe music with one another.
