What five songs would you take to a desert island?

1. Ball Park Music – ‘Please Don’t Move to Melbourne’

2. Harry Styles – ‘Dance No More’

3. Peach Fuzz – ‘Wish U Were Never Born’

4. Clarence James – ‘Ronson Princess’

5. Malcom Todd – ‘Bleed’ ft. Omar Apollo

I could honestly be here forever naming songs by so many different artists because I can’t stick to one person at a time. I love finding little hidden gems through playlists and recs as well as a bit of mainstream music. Every second my answer could change when I find or remember a song that just hits different.

If you could only pick one, what would it be?

This is the most difficult question because these are all my babies, but I guess it would be ‘Please Don’t Move to Melbourne’ by Ball Park Music. I don’t think I could ever get sick of that song. It’s such a feel-good song and so incredibly catchy that I would just dance to over and over again.

What's your favourite album?

I am forever obsessed with Kanas Anymore (The Longest Goodbye) by Role Model! The drastically different tones for going through a breakup and yearning for someone really hits different, despite me being in a perfectly healthy relationship. I think the way the album presents itself itches something in my brain so perfectly. But I would also say 4th Wall by Ruel, as that is just a straight-up no skip, never miss MASTERPIECE!

What's your favourite song by an SA artist or band?

This is a bit cheeky because it’s an unreleased song… but ‘Maybe I Read You Wrong’ by Methylated is constantly stuck in my head. The references to different things in the real world really make it feel personal and relatable. I can’t wait for the world to hear it! It’s so unbelievably catchy, it will be running through your mind, rent-free. But honourable mentions to ‘Running on Empty’ by The Tullamarines and ‘Hypnotise’ by The Bluff.

Favourite music-related memory?

I saw Del Water Gap in September last year and I had the opportunity to try and get second row for the show, but something in me knew to stay in the middle of the pit because I knew he came down during a song. And boy, was it the right thing to do. Not only was I first row in the circle that surrounded him when he entered the pit, not only did he grab and shake my hand, amongst everyone jumping up and down, but he locked eyes with me, grabbed my hand and danced with me. Safe to say I didn’t shut up about it for weeks on end.

Otherwise, going to any gig or concert will always be the highlight of my life! I’ve seen so many of my favourite artists and have made so many friends and connections going to gigs. I’m so grateful for all the opportunities and experiences I’ve had due to concerts and music.

Special mention goes to the small uni gigs I’ve put on myself. I love being able to show off my peers’ incredible talents, getting to brag that I know these talented people and watching them perform at a gig that I organised is such an unbelievable feeling.
