In the Green Room: Ramblin’ Moon revue

SA’s travelling music roadshow, Ramblin’ Moon Revue, has wrangled a group of talented artists for an intimate night of folk at The Wheaty. Organiser Todd Bennett tells us more.

The Ramblin’ Moon Revue is heading to The Wheaty this August. For those who haven’t been to a show before, what should they expect?

Ramblin’ Moon Revue is all about the song and experiencing it in its rawest, most personal form. The night is a celebration of songs, storytelling and sing-a-longs. The show takes on an old-world charm with a lovely rapport between artist and audience, and having an eclectic mix of acts on the bill means there’s always something for everyone.

You’ve got an awesome line-up of SA artists. How do you curate who plays each show?

South Australia has such a wealth of talent, especially with singer-songwriters, and sometimes I’m overwhelmed with choices. But thankfully, it seemed to come together quite organically. It’s usually a mix of new and established acts, artists I’m familiar with and others I’ve just been wowed by for the first time.

Who are you most excited to see?

I’ve seen Kelly Menhennett, Ryan Martin John and Jessica Luxx several times before [and] they’re all incredible songwriters and performers. I’m yet to see Ella Ion live, so I’m really looking forward to hearing her stunning songs come to life on The Wheaty stage. One thing’s for sure, by the end of the night, everyone will have their own new favourite.

You’re a travelling music roadshow. Where can we expect to see you next?

It’s quite a romantic idea I guess, a group of old-time travelling troubadours setting up a humble stage in each town along the road and playing their tunes to the locals for a penny or two. I’m hoping to take another raggletaggle band of [musos] to some magical parts of SA again, this coming summer. We had such a good time last tour and the hospitality we enjoyed from the music-lovin’ folk in country towns was bloody terrific.

See the Ramblin’ Moon Revue at The Wheaty this August 18. Tickets are on sale now.
