You’re gearing up for the inaugural Porch & Recreation. What can you tell us about the event?

Porch & Recreation is Adelaide’s answer to all the bloody good music that comes to this country and flies right over the top of our city without stopping. We’re touring some artists from Vivid Sydney, Rising Melbourne and Dark MOFO alongside our own curated program.

We’re striving to bring some high-quality, contemporary touring music to our city in a breathtaking setting (and for it to return year in, year out).

What act are you most excited to see? What act do you think will surprise the audience most?

They’re all so bloody fabulous, but I think the sheer excitement of bringing Mount Kimbie to Adelaide is at the top. Their DJ set is a really unique journey of texture and exploration. And if you haven’t seen or heard of Grace Cummings, get ready to have your socks blown off – she’s one of the most powerful presences to come out of Australian music in a long time.

Porch Records has hosted many events at Burnside Ballroom. Why do you keep returning?

It’s truly the city’s best-kept secret. It’s a quietly immaculate art deco building that transports you to a different time. There’s a distinct charm and class to it, with a wrap-around split-level mezzanine, vintage booths and secret bars.

There’s also a beautiful community that surrounds Porch Records events. What does this mean to you?

The community is my favourite thing about Porch Records. There’s this captured group of devoted humans that completely love music, are interested in new experiences and they really just show up, determined to keep this fire burning. I am eternally grateful for them.

Porch & Recreation takes place at Burnside Ballroom on May 31 and June 1, featuring Mount Kimbie, Surprise Chef and more. Tickets on sale now via porchrecords.com.au.
