Tkay Maidza Teams Up With Jenevieve On New Single ‘Romanticise’

The track follows the previously released singles ‘Must Be’ and ‘Pressed’.

Tkay Maidza has been on a roll this year following the release of delicious singles ‘Must Be’ and ‘Pressed’, and today, she shares another genre-bending track in the form of the soul-infused disco burner ‘Romanticize’.

A duet with R&B and pop artist Jenevieve, ‘Romanticize’ features a slinky bassline crafted by Trackside and production from Kieran Watters, and hints at a new, bold direction for Tkay as she plots her upcoming album, due out later this year.

Speaking on the track, Tkay states: “‘Romanticize’ is about reaching a plateau in a relationship or also life in general. I felt everything around this period of my life was reaching a complete halt going back and forth, and I found myself listening to old music trying to tap into creative ideas in ways I haven’t in a long time.

“I was listening to Unknown Mortal Orchestra and Pale Jay a lot around this era as well as a lot of 90s R&B music, I started to go for long hikes & reconnect with nature. It’s a moment of wanting to go back to the better time period of life but I’m fighting with myself to acknowledge what is occurring and that the current changes are affecting me - that’s why it’s really tongue-in-cheek in terms of the writing. It’s to find the light-heartedness in the whole experience. There's a curiosity of going through the same cycle but having too much pride at the same time.”

‘Romanticize’ is the third taste of Tkay’s upcoming new album, which follows 2023’s Sweet Justice, the Zimbabwe-born, Australia-raised artist’s sophomore album.

Now based in LA, Tkay is bullish on her return this year, stating, “People shouldn’t count me out or underestimate my abilities. They should be afraid when I’m quiet, as I come back more evolved.”

Fans can expect something special when Tkay’s drops her long-awaited third studio album later this year.
