Zimbabwe-born, Australia-raised Tkay Maidza returns with pulsating new single ‘Must Be’, out now via UnitedMasters and Island Records/Dew Process.
Produced by British artist and producer Maths Time Joy, ‘Must Be’ is an explosion of contemporary rap beats and Maidza’s unique flow.
‘Must Be’ is Maidza’s first release since dropping her 2023 album, Sweet Justice, and is a welcome return from the genre-bending artist.
Full of chaotic energy, the track marks the next step in Maidza’s career since moving to Los Angeles. “People shouldn’t count me out or underestimate my abilities,” she says. “They should be afraid when I’m quiet, as I come back more evolved.”
Growing up in Adelaide, Maidza could have pursued a career as a professional tennis player, but chose music, which proved a good decision.
Her 2013 debut single, ‘Brontosaurus’, was a surprise hit and quickly established Maidza as a talent. Tkay has gone on to become the first female rapper signed to 4AD and has toured with both Billie Eilish and Dua Lipa.
Maidza has also won two ARIA Awards, released two studio albums and collaborated with everyone from Kaytranada to JPEGMAFIA.
