After releasing his first single ‘Lights of New York City’ in June, Editors’ frontman Tom Smith has shared new single ‘Life Is for Living’ and announced the release of his debut solo album.
In a career spanning more than two decades and seven albums with Editors, Smith is finally going out on his own. There Is Nothing In The Dark Which Isn’t There In The Light arrives 5 December via Play It Again on December 5 (pre-order here) and consists of ten tracks, including latest single ‘Life Is for Living’.
A soaring acoustic ballad that finds Smith pondering the meaning of life, ‘Life Is for Living’ offers a much more positive outlook than some of his work with Editors.
“‘Life is for living, any way you want, life is for living, live it ‘till it’s gone…’ Iain (producer) and I stumbled across this line together, it felt like an empowering thing to say, and it spoke to the dreamlike hopeful nature of the song.”

As the main man of Editors, Smith has been there since the very beginning when the band formed in 2002.
The band broke out in 2005 with their Mercury Prize-nominated debut album, The Back Room, which they followed up in 2007 with their first #1 UK Album Chart record, An End Has a Start.
Editors have gone on to release a further five albums, all of which made the UK Album Chart Top 10, and established themselves as one of the few indie rock acts of the early 00s who have continued to release compelling music.
Smith’s first foray as a solo artist is sure to tide Editors fans over until the band decided to release their anticapted eigth long player.
