Nine years on since their last release, Melbourne indie rockers The Temper Trap returned today with new track ‘Lucky Dimes’.
The song recalls the experimental nature of The Temper Trap’s self-titled album with its thumping drum beat, distorted guitars and frontman Dougy Mandagi’s familiar vocals shining through.
“Good to know that 9 years after the last one, we still have something to say,” says Mandagi. “It’s been an absolute pleasure creating this record and we can’t wait to share it with you, not to relive the past but to write the next chapter.”
From that statement, it appears The Temper Trap have a new album in the works, which will be their first since their 2016 #1 ARIA Album Chart release Thick As Thieves.
‘Lucky Dimes’ is accompanied by a music video directed by Joey Clough that features the band performing in an empty room.

Coming together in 2005, The Temper Trap wasted no time making an impact, perfomring at Laneway Festival in 2006 and going on to sign to Michael Gudinski's Liberation Music.
Their self-titled EP, produced by Scott Horscroft (The Sleepy Jackson, Silverchair), arrived that same year to great reviews. The Temper Trap took several years honing their craft before dropping their debut album Conditions in 2009, quickly becoming a favourite amongst guitar-loving music fans thanks to the hit single ‘Sweet Disposition’.
They followed up three years later with their experimental self-titled sophomore album before their third and most recent record, Thick As Thieves, arrived four years later in 2016.
Despite no new music in nine years, the lads have toured intermittently, supporting Imagine Dragons on their Australian and New Zealand tour in 2018 and playing several festivals and one-off gigs.
They also popped up in triple j’s Hottest 100 of Australian Songs, coming in at #11 with ‘Sweet Disposition’.
