The Reclink Community Cup Returns For Its 10th Anniversary This Weekend

This weekend the Reclink Community Cup marks its 10th anniversary with a huge match at Adelaide’s iconic Coopers Stadium in Norwood.

Proudly supported by ThreeD Radio, Howden Australia, Heaps Normal and Adelaide Backline, more than 1,000 music and footy fans are expected to take over the ground on Saturday 25 July as traditional rivals the Rockatoos (featuring some of Adelaide’s leading rock musicians) and The Anchors (radio legends and media) compete in a battle of the ages.

Bringing together musicians, footy fans and music lovers, the annual event raises funds for Reclink Australia, a charity with a vision for a future where sport and recreation are accessible and recognised as an essential service for community health. 

The teams feature stacked lineups of local personalities, with Tom and Callum from Fresh 92.7 going head-to-head on opposing teams. The Rockatoos lineup includes Deputy Premier Kyam Maher, Screaming Jets and The Angels legend Dave Gleeson and his son and members of Oscar the Wild, while the Anchors will feature Minister for Human Services Seniors, Aging Well and Women Katrine Hildyard, with radio great Shaun Craig Murphy locked in as coach.

Along with the big game, there will be live music throughout the day, with former Screaming Jets frontman Gleeso, local rockers LOLA, alternative outfit Molly Rocket and indie-psych-punk wonders TV Therapy all taking to the stage.

Rock legends and ARIA Hall of Fame Inductees Spiderbait, who are in town as part of their Ivy & The Big Apple 15th Anniversary Tour, are doing the coin toss.

Reclink CEO Dave Wells said sport is "an essential service" that helps build communities and connection in a world where finding "your people" is becoming increasingly difficult.

Alarmingly, Australia ranks 140th out of 146 countries for physical activity among teenagers. Mr Wells says too many young people think sport is not for them due to barriers such as access, registration costs, equipment, and time. 

"Australians are rightly proud of our sporting achievements, but the reality is that too many in our community – particularly young people – are locked out of sport due to financial, structural, and social barriers.

"The Cup is our most important fundraising event to ensure we can continue to deliver inclusive sport and recreation programs that empower individuals and communities across Australia.

"We’re incredibly proud to be celebrating ten years of the Reclink Community Cup and can’t wait to see it continue to grow for many years to come."
