Adelaide City of Music Building International Opportunities for SA Musicians
ACOM's new partnership with Sunfest aims to deliver new career pathways for SA artists.

As Australia's only UNESCO City of Music, Adelaide has established itself as the beating heart of the country's music scene.
Through its connections with the UNESCO Creative Cities Network, Adelaide City of Music (ACOM) has been helping deliver pathways for SA artists, with the designation providing membership to more than 400 cities across the UNESCO Creative Cities Network
One of the most recent examples of ACOM relationships that have been built over the years through the UNESCO Creative Cities Network is between Adelaide and London, Ontario, which is home to Sunfest, a major free world music festival.
Founded in 1995, Sunfest has developed into one of the city's biggest festivals, celebrating music, food and culture.
During Adelaide's festive season in Mad March, ACOM facilitated a Sunfest visit through a partnership with the Adelaide Fringe Honey Pot program to help promote South Australia’s creative landscape and develop new pathways for artists and stronger international relationships.
The connection with Sunfest led to Nexus Arts, Adelaide’s leading intercultural contemporary arts organisation, being invited to visit Sunfest in July to experience the festival, helping establish new relationships and open doors for artists, as many who have attended Sunfest are often booked to perform at other summer festivals across the US and Canada.
This connection is a great example of why Adelaide being a UNESCO City of Music is vital to the local music scene, demonstrating how a working relationship with UNESCO Creative Cities Network can result in artists being exposed to a global audience and being offered new opportunities while also strengthening SA's position in the world music community.
This partnership is one of many ACOM is involved with and shows their commitment to keeping the spotlight on SA and giving local artists more opportunities.
