The Smashing Pumpkins are the latest band to get the tribute treatment, with Sumerian Records announcing Sending Hearts To All My Dearies - A Tribute To The Smashing Pumpkins, out Friday 14 August for the digital release and Friday 16 October for the deluxe 2LP vinyl release featuring multiple exclusive multi-colour variants.
Approved by Billy Corgan himself, Sending Hearts To All My Dearies takes its name from a beloved lyric in the Siamese Dream classic ‘Mayonaise’. The 15-track album contains an eclectic lineup of artists spanning multiple genres, reinterpreting Smashing Pumpkins classic.
The first taste of the album is Tame Impala’s take on ‘Hummer’, taken from the Pumpkins’ landmark 1993 album Siamese Dream. Kevin Parker transforms the track into a hypnotic psych-rock dreamscape that honours the original.
“Siamese Dream was the soundtrack to my high school years and ‘Hummer’ is the song that takes me back there in the most potent way,” says Parker about his contribution.
The album also includes new versions of Pumpkins favourites ‘Bullet With Butterfly Wings’, ‘Jellybelly’, ‘Cherub Rock’, ‘Tonight Tonight’ and more.
