Byron Bay rock duo Skegss have shared new single, ‘State of Hawaii,’ the second taste of their upcoming Top Heavy EP.
Arriving June 27 via Loma Vista Recordings (pre-sale here), Top Heavy ushers in a new era for Skegss, with the duo incorporating bossa nova rhythms into their surf rock sound.
‘State of Hawaii’ follows ‘So Excited’ and is a breezy tribute to island life, with lead singer Benny Reed having this to say about the track, “We had a bit of fun with this song in the studio where we tried a few different versions and then thought it would be fun to go a little Latin or Cuban, a bit of a mix of things. We got some congas in there and trumpet for the first time, as well as some Spanish vocals.”
Accompanying the song is a black and white music video directed and produced by Kale Neville that was shot while the band was on tour.
