Stormy-Lou Returns With New Rocker 'OLDER'

Kaurna/Adelaide-based pop-punkers Stormy-Lou have followed up April's 'Watching & Waiting' with the foot-tapping 'OLDER'.

A fun burst of power punk produced by Lucinda Machin (The Tullamarines) and mastered by Jarred Nettle (Teenage Joans), the track is a coming-of-age ditty originally written five years ago.

A live favourite, Stormy-Lou got back in the studio to give 'OLDER' a new coat of paint, with the song acting as a love letter to fans who have grown up with and supported the band since their infancy.

Both Alex Taylor and Mik Stoker lend their voices to this one, each singing their own verse while coming together for some sublime harmonies.

"Overall, the song is quite an introspective look on past and future experiences that shape us, and our awareness of how we exist in the world just keeps growing as we do," explains vocalist Stoker. "Realising and accepting that a lot of stuff that was so important to us in younger years has been replaced by bigger and different things that seem to take priority these days, but still holding space for the joy that they brought us at the time."

Guitarist and vocalist Taylor adds, “'OLDER' is a track that focuses on energy and joy. Initially written at the ripe old age of 19, Stormy-Lou lamented on old age and the retirement of their teenage years. This was a staple of earlier Stormy-Lou sets but was cast aside during their indie-rock era. Now that Stormy-Lou have returned to their pop-punk roots, it feels like a great time to rebirth the song about getting old – at the ancient age of 25. 'Watching & Waiting' and 'OLDER' find Stormy-Lou embracing their love for early '00s punk pop, giving longtime fans of the local five-piece something to smile about.

Forming five years ago, Stormy-Lou had a moment last year with the release of their debut EP, See Ya, Love Ya, Bye!. Shows across the nation followed, along with high praise from Rolling Stone and triple j Unearthed.

Fingers crossed more music is on the way, along with a tour.
