As anticipation builds towards the release of Ruel’s third studio album Kicking My Feet & Screaming, out Friday 12 June via Recess Records/Virgin Music, the Sydney artist has shared new single ‘Debbie Don’t Cry’.
Following the release of ‘Hate Myself’ and ‘Don’t Say That’, the Teen Spirit cover star’s latest single is a shimmering synth ballad with ‘80s flourishes that’s sure to be a late-night favourite.
“I’ve been dropping hints about the track for ages and now Debbie is finally here!” Ruel shares. “Making this song started off as a kinda joke on a writing trip. Me and the other writers got back to the house pretty late at night (maybe a little buzzed) and started messing around. Skip to the next day and Debbie was finished. It became an instant favourite of that writing trip, plus I played the guitar solo at the end which felt really good as I think I’m a pretty average guitarist, so I surprised myself!”
A sequel to last year’s Kicking My Feet, Ruel’s new album is out Friday 12 June via Recess Records/Virgin Music (pre-order here). The record features 10 tracks with input from Julian Bunetta, John Ryan, Kenny Beats, M-Phazes, Dan Wilson and Leroy Clampit.
