Placement Share New Single ‘Insect’, Announce Adelaide Album Launch Show
‘Insect’ follows on from the previously released singles ‘Inertia / Heavy Lids’ and ‘More A Curse’.

Genre-bending wizards Placement have shared their third single of 2025, the beguiling guitar thrasher ‘Insect’.
Following the previously released ‘Inertia / Heavy Lids’ and ‘More A Curse’, the band’s latest mindblower is taken from their upcoming album, also titled Insect, which is set for release June 27 via Clarity Records (pre-order here).
‘Insect’ is a shoegaze temptation that descends into a chaotic explosion of guitars, saxophone and clarinet, showcasing Placement’s uniquely experimental personality.
Reflecting on the track, vocalist and guitarist Malia Wearn says: “I had a cat called Cash. He was hard to live with, stinky, wild, murderous and uncontainable. He would disappear sometimes for days and we would wonder if he would one day disappear forever. But I found him straight away that morning, draped across the pavement. I had to wait for a car to pass between us before I could reach him.
“Did they see him as they sped past, one of the many insects crushed on the road, drawn to the light, to the furnace. How long did he lie there in a halo of streetlight, just outside the cemetery gates? He had jaws that bit and teeth that caught, an insect like me.”
‘Insect’ is accompanied by a music video directed by the band’s guitarist, Alex Dearman. Check it out below.

Along with the release of ‘Insect’, Placement have revealed several tour dates, including an album launch show in their hometown of Tarntanya/Adelaide.
Kicking things off with a gig at the Grace Darling Hotel in Naarm/Melbourne on Friday 26 June alongside Gush and Special Features, Placement make their way back to Tarntanya/Adelaide to launch their album Insect at Crown & Anchor on Saturday 27 June with support from Twine, Special Features and Somewhere.
Placement then play three free gigs across NSW and the ACT in July, hitting Canberra’s Fun Time Pony on Friday 11 July with Smartcasual, Woolyungah/Wollongong’s Dicey Riley’s on Saturday 12 July with Smartcasual, Delivery, Amends & Business Doing Pleasure, and Warrang/Sydney’s King Street Crawl on Sunday 13 July.
