Guitar virtuoso Pete Cornelius is crossing the Bass Strait for six headline gigs on the mainland this June.
The tour comes in support of Cornelius’ fifth album, Southern, which dropped in February. Produced by Cornelius and Matt Fell, the album is ten tracks of blues and roots Americana steeped in the rawness of the Tassie heartland.
Southern topped the ARIA Australian Country Albums chart and peaked at#2 on the AIR Australian Music Charts.
Josh Cunningham of The Waifs had this to say about the record: “With Southern, Pete Cornelius has crafted an album of grit, toughness and beauty. His guitar playing is as lyrical and evocative as his vocal delivery and features as a second ‘voice’ on the record - the two complementing rather than competing with each other in sheer storytelling perfection.”
Cornelius’ tour begins at the Barwon Heads Hotel in Barwon Heads on Friday, June 13. The singer-songwriter then performs at East Brunswick’s The Lomond Hotel on Saturday, June 14, and Newport’s Way Out West Roots Music Club on Sunday, June 15. Then it’s off to SA for three gigs at Goolwa’s Murray Delta Juke Joint on Friday, June 20, Macclesfield’s Three Brothers Arms on Saturday, June 21, and Semaphore’s Workers Club on Sunday, June 22.
Accompanying Cornelius are his good friends Louis Gill on bass and backing vocals, and Liam O’Leary on drums.
Tickets for all six shows are on sale now via petecornelius.com.
A proud Tasmanian, Cornelius draws on his surroundings to craft raw and emotional stories. Pairing his soulful voice with dazzling guitar licks, Cornelius has found international acclaim and won a multitude of awards, often working alongside Lurtruwita/Tasmania artists.
Since the release of his debut album, 1998’s Steppin Out in Blue, Cornelius has continued to perform both locally, where he’s built a large following, and across the rest of Australia, forming a strong connection with his audience.
Catch Pete Cornelius at Goolwa’s Murray Delta Juke Joint on Friday, June 20, Macclesfield’s Three Brothers Arms on Saturday, June 21 and Semaphore’s Workers Club on Sunday, June 22. Tickets on sale now via petecornelius.com.
