Midnight Oil Releasing 'Head Injuries (Live At Selina's)' In November

Legendary Australian rockers Midnight Oil have announced the release of new live album Head Injuries (Live At Selina's), out Friday 27 November via Powderworks and Sony Music Australia.

The LP was recorded at Sydney's iconic Selina's in 2017 and marks the Oils' first gig after a 15-year hiatus. This special event saw the band perform songs from their 1979 record Head Injuries alongside fan favourites, including a rare live version of surf instrumental 'Wedding Cake Island'.

Taking to social media to announce the release, the Oils revealed the album was recorded by Colin Ellis, their long-time front-of-house engineer, and mixed by Greg Wales, one of Australia's most experienced live sound engineers who has worked for triple j for over three decades.

Drummer Rob Hirst, who sadly passed away earlier this year, was involved in the making of the record, with Head Injuries (Live At Selina's) dedicated to his memory and bassist Bones Hillman, who also features on the album.

Only about 2,000 people managed to experience the Oils' performance at Selina's, with the intimate gig followed by a massive global tour that saw the band perfomring 77 gigs in 16 countries to over half a million fans.

Now that Midnight Oil are pretty much done, with frontman Peter Garrett telling Zan Rowe on her show Take 5 that the chances of any big tours are unlikely, this album gives fans the chance to hear the chaos and energy that the Oils produced live on stage.
