LIVE MUSIC RETURNS TO THE ED CASTLE

It’s been a long time between drinks at the Ed Castle! February is shaping up to be a jam-packed month of music at the newly re-opened Currie Street institution.

After sadly closing five years ago, the Currie Street institution has re-opened, and, just like old times, hosting live original music is one of the first things on the agenda for the hotel! Kicking off this weekend, the Ed Castle will play host to a jam-packed month of music in February.
Expect house, techno and ’90s beats on Friday, February 2, when OnlyDance – the electronic side project of acclaimed drummer Alexander Flood and King of Spain’s David Goodwin – take the decks. Spinning tunes late into the night, this gig is designed to get your weekend in motion. Get in early to see supports by record connoisseur Jude the Vinyl Collector and local producer INKSWEL from 8pm.
Keep that energy rolling into Saturday and catch local four-piece Modern Relics at the Ed Castle, who are celebrating the launch of their debut single, which dropped late December. Blending the blueprint sounds of the Arctic Monkeys and The Strokes, this outfit has a noise that reinvents nostalgic noughties alt-rock in a that feels fresh yet familiar at the same time. Tickets are $10 on door, with indie five-piece The Max Headroom billed as supports.
After this weekend, the rest of February is shaping up to be just as strong at the Ed Castle. You’ll find some of the city’s sweetest DJs spinning vinyl in the beer garden on February 9, with INKSWEL back on the tools alongside house music purveyor Medhi. Lo-fi jazz and soul four-piece Ben Iota will play on February 10, followed by experimental electronic folk artist and radio selector Georgia Oatley on February 16. Listen to afrobeat aficionado Bortier Okoe live with a full band on February 17 and groove to world DJs playing soul-fuelled songs late into the night.
On February 23, the Ed Castle will host open-air party Blender Fest – an evening of South American hip-hop, R&B, Afrobeat and folk sounds that celebrates some of the best artists from around the world. It’s a jam-packed, internationally-heavy lineup featuring acts like Kel DL (Brasil), Salva (Chile), Tommy Marsh (Aus), Papa Jay (Costa Rica), Anita McDonald (Aus) and more.
Established in 1836, the Ed Castle is South Australia’s first licensed pub and has spent decades servicing the South Australian music community. West Thebarton, Bad//Dreems, Last Dinosaurs, City Calm Down, Teenage Dads, Druid Fluids and Ricky Albeck all cut their teeth at the Currie Street institution, and now, it’s ready to host the next generation of Aussie talent.

There’s plenty more music to come from the Ed Castle! Keep across the hotel’s socials to keep in the loop with all the great gigs happening here. Find the Ed Castle at 233 Currie Street, Adelaide.
