It’s been an incredible 35 years since Japanese-Brazillian Bossa Nova singer Lisa Ono became a professional musician.
Often referred to as the ‘Queen of Bossa Nova’, Ono helped popularise the genre throughout Asia and is returning to Australia to celebrate her 35 year career.
She is scheduled to play two shows during her short tour, performing at the Syndey Opera House in Sydney on Saturday, June 29 and at Adelaide Town Hall in Adelaide on Sunday, June 30.
The talented singer and guitarist will be joined by a live band during her two Australian performances made up of saxophonist Hiroshi Suzuki, pianist Masaki Hayashi and cellist Harmony Chen.
Picking up the guitar and learning to sing at age 15, Ono’s illustrious 35 year career has seen her perform with the likes of legendary Antonio Carlos Jobim and Jazz Samba giant Joao Donato.
Ono is regarded as a true star of the Bossa Nova genre and is responsible for making it popular in Japan and throughout Asia. Her 1999 album, Dream, sold more than two hundred copies in Japan and established Ono as a star.
“It took me quite some time to finally make it to Australia where I first performed as part of my 30th anniversary tour,” Ono said in a statement.
“Since that tour, I have been fortunate enough to return several times and create a deep connection with the country. I am so excited for Australia to be part of these 35th anniversary celebrations in June.”
The tour has been well received by fans overseas, with Ono playing all her most popular tunes from her 30+ album catalogue, including ‘Que Sera Sera’, ‘Moon River’, ‘When You Wish Upon a Star’ and ‘Fly Me To the Moon’.
Tickets for Lisa Ono’s Adelaide show at Adelaide Town Hall as part of her 35th anniversary Australian concert tour are on sale now via Eventbrite.
