We’re a little late to the party with this one (it’s been out for a few weeks), but Perth’s Gap Year are back with the driving new single, ‘Slow Here’.
Born during a period of introspection, the track has a dad rock quality to it and is reminiscent of fellow Aussie indie favs Gang of Youths, particularly in the guitar department.
Speaking on the track, Gap Year’s guitarist and vocalist Lee Napper says, “‘Slow Here’ is a song where I attempted to capture the aching feeling of being out of sync with the rest of the world, including the love of my life at the time.
“Writing it from a place of reflection and regret, I wanted to explore the sense of always being two steps behind, even when you’ve found your one and only. Slow Here is my way of exploring vulnerability combined with the sense of yearning, doubt, and the weight of repeated mistakes.”
‘Slow Here’ is the second single released by Gap Year in 2025, following on from the jangly ‘80s barnburner ‘In Light’.
