Rising Aussie folk artist Flynn Gurry has shared his new single ‘Bones’, a ripping acoustic finger picker reminiscent of early Mumford & Sons.
“I am very excited but also quite nervous to be releasing ‘Bones’ to the world,” Gurry said in press material. “This song is SO MUCH FUN to play live, and I have felt it translate really well on the live stage, but I do feel this track may surprise listeners from my previous work, hence the nerves.
“The writing inspiration for Bones explores heartbreak through hindsight – one day you realise you’re two people who have stayed too long, given everything you had until there was nothing more to give. Love has become exhaustion. Sonically, artists that inspired the sound of this track are the likes of Kaleo and Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats.”
Following last year’s ‘Don’t Stop Dreaming’, Gurry’s new song is the latest taste of what fans can expect from the Victorians’ much-anticipated new EP, Gold, which he revealed is coming soon.
Not only has Gurry dropped a new tune and announced his EP, but the Warrnambool-born artist has also listed a stack of tour dates, including several free shows.
The tour begins with a hometown show at Lighthouse Studio in Warrnambool on Friday 20 March, followed by an appearance at Wide Open Spaces Festival in Beulah on Saturday 21 March. Three free shows follow at Hall Gap’s Paper Scissors Rock Co on Friday 27 March, Winchelsea’s Alt Road Wines on Saturday 28 March and McLaren Vale’s Down The Rabbit Hole on Friday 3 April.
Ticketed shows at Solbar in Maroochydore on Friday 10 April and The Retreat in Brunswick on Friday 24 April are followed by free gigs at Wollongong’s Towradgi Beach Hotel on Friday 1 May and Newcastle’s Stag & Hunter on Sunday 3 May.
Of the final four concerts, tickets are on sale for Gurry’s performances at Bathurst’s Little Albert’s on Thursday 7 May and Canberra’s Smith’s Alternative on Friday 8 May, while Sydney’s Golden Age Cinema on Saturday 9 May and Freshwater’s Bombies on Sunday 10 May are both free.
