Led by charismatic frontman Lachlan Rose, the indie rock act have shared new single, ‘Mercury Rising’, along with a run of Australian tour dates.
A slinky, '70s-inspired bundle of joy, Rose had this to say about the tune: “‘Mercury Rising’ percolated in the creative volcano for many years. Riffs at sound check, lyrics on tour, etc. Then the band had a day off between shows in Europe, went to a nudist day spa and the song was crystallised.
“It’s a celebration of fun, sexy love - platonic or otherwise. We wanted the song itself to sound like the world in which it was created; a safe, playful celebration of lascivious love between friends.”
Hot on the heels of three sold-out album shows in their hometown, where Cousin Tony’s Brand New Firebird performed each of their three albums in pubs around Naarm/Melbourne, the band have announced four national dates this July/August.
Hitting Melbourne’s Corner Hotel on Friday, July 25, Cousin Tony’s Brand New Firebird then performs at Adelaide’s Ed Castle on Saturday, August 2, Sydney’s Oxford Art Factory on Saturday, August 9, and Brisbane’s The Brightside on Tuesday, August 12.
