Six years on since their last release, Sydney rockers Cog have dropped brand new single ‘Walk The Line’.
The band’s first release since 2019’s standalone track, ‘Drawn Together’, the single will delight fans of the prog rock act. Not to be confused with the Johnny Cash song of the same name, ‘Walk The Line’ is a bouncy guitar pearler that finds vocalist Flynn Gower, bassist Luke Gower and drummer Lucius Borich in fine form.
“‘Walk The Line’ expresses it all for us,” shares Flynn. “Life for the three of us is fucking hard at the moment. The three of us individually are struggling to just survive and keep our heads above water. When you look at the work that goes into a song like this alone, the cost and the general lack of return, it's all becoming almost impossible for us.”
“Almost everyone I know is in the same boat, they're on struggle street, scratching their heads and wondering how to survive. The microcosm of the music and arts industry in Australia has gotten especially tough, and we're all feeling the effects of that.”
“As a band we are working on stuff, we're working towards other songs. But at this point in time we really don't know what the future holds, and we don't know if this will be the last song. And that's really what Walk The Line is all about at its core.”
The release of ‘Walk The Line’ arrives ahead of Cog’s upcoming Australian tour that kicks off at Cairns’ Tanks Art Centre on Friday 28 November.
Dates then follow at Townsville’s The Warehouse on Saturday 29 November, Mackay’s McGuires on Sunday 30 November, Newcastle’s King Street on Thursday 4 December, Brisbane’s Brightside Outdoors on Friday 5 December, Caloundra’s Kings Beach Tavern on Saturday 6 December and Melbourne’s Max Watts on Friday 12 December.
The final four concerts take place at Sydney’s The Metro on Sunday 14 December and Adelaide’s The Gov on Thursday 18 December and Byron Bay’s Great Northern on Saturday 20 December, with the final gig on Sunday 21 December at Hoey Moey in Coffs Harbour.

Coming out of the Aussie alt-rock scene of the ‘90s, Cog quickly established themselves as ones to watch.
The trio released the EPs Pseudo (2000), Just Visiting Part One (2002) and Just Visiting Part Two (2002) before taking the country by storm with their debut 2005 album The New Normal.
Cog became a constant on the touring circuit and followed up The New Normal with Shifting Space three years later. The album peaked at #2 on the ARIA Album Chart and was nominated for Album of the Year by triple j.
Taking a five-year hiatus, Cog returned in 2016 with a sold-out tour and new music followed in 2018. Since then, Cog have sporadically released new singles and toured, and after a long battle to reclaim ownership of their music, the band are embarking on a new chapter in their story.
While still unsure of what this entails, Cog are excited to be making new music and thankful for all the support they’ve received over the journey, especially when it comes to ‘Walk The Line’.
“The feedback and response we’ve had so far to ‘Walk The Line’ and the upcoming shows has been fantastic,” concludes Flynn. “It makes us feel so good to know that people are enjoying what we’ve put so much time and love into.”
“We’d like to extend our deepest gratitude to everyone who’s given the track a spin on YouTube ahead of today's release, and we look forward to the end of the year when we will finally get to play a few shows once again.”
