Bloc Party Share New Single ‘Now We Can’t Be Friends’

This is the third single taken from the band's forthcoming album, 'Anatomy Of A Brief Romance'.

'Now We Can't Be Friends' is the third track taken from Bloc Party's forthcoming seventh studio album Anatomy Of A Brief Romance, out Friday 11 September on their newly formed record label cOnTAGIOUS LTD/Mushroom Music.

Following the singles 'Coming On Strong' and 'Love Bombs', Bloc Party's latest taste of their new record is the best yet.

While Kele Okereke's obsession with electronic music continues, there's a touch of the old Bloc Party about this one, with the frontman in fine form.

The track finds Okereke hitting the club after a break-up, only to run into his ex, who he wants nothing to do with. "You can have these big feelings, but you have to be aware that when they go, this is how you'll feel and you'll be OK with that," says Okereke of the song.

As for the new record, Anatomy Of A Brief Romance follows 2022’s Alpha Games and follows the ups and downs of a relationship across 14 tracks.

Speaking about the Trevor Horn (Grace Jones, Pet Shop Boys, Frankie Goes To Hollywood) produced album, Okereke adds, “Every lyric you're hearing on this record was something that actually happened to me. I had to tell the story, from start to finish.”

Emerging during the heyday of the UK indie rock scene, Bloc Party are one of the few acts still drawing big crowds to their shows.

Their seminal 2005 debut album, Silent Album, debuted at #3 on the UK Albums Chart, and was followed by 2007's A Weekend in the City, which hit #2 on the UK Albums Chart.

Despite the loss of original members Gordon Moakes and Matt Tong, the current lineup of OG vocalist and guitarist Kele Okereke and guitarist and programmer Russell Lissack, joined by bassist Harry Deacon and drummer Louise Bartle, continue to tour the globe, with their recent Australian shows celebrating the 20th anniversary of Silent Alarm well received by fans.
