The record is being touted as unlike anything Bloc Party has ever released before.

UK indie stalwarts Bloc Party have announced the release of their seventh LP, Anatomy Of A Brief Romance, out Friday 11 September on the newly formed record label cOnTAGIOUS LTD/Mushroom Music.

Bloc Party’s first album since 2022’s Alpha Games, the 14-track release is produced by Trevor Horn (Grace Jones, Pet Shop Boys, Frankie Goes To Hollywood) and explores “an intoxicating love affair, from furtive first glances across the gym floor to the gut-wrenching heartbreak of a final farewell.”

Despite being seven albums deep into a career spanning more than 25 years, Bloc Party frontman Kele Okereke believes this album is different from anything they’ve ever released and includes the most personal songs he has ever written.

“Every lyric you're hearing on this record was something that actually happened to me. I had to tell the story, from start to finish,” he says of Anatomy Of A Brief Romance.

To coincide with the announcement, Bloc Party have shared the album’s first single, the catchy, guitar-driven ‘Coming On Strong’.

“It's that feeling of, I've had my eye on this person for a while, and then we're finally in a situation where we can be something to each other,” explains Okereke of the track. “And that's such a seductive feeling. You're not seeing their problems, and they're not seeing your problems. You're just shaping up and getting ready for this ride.”

There are few bands from the early ‘00s indie craze that are still releasing hit records and selling out venues across the globe, but that’s exactly what Bloc Party are doing.

Breaking out in 2005 with their critically acclaimed debut album Silent Album, which the band played in full during their 2025 Australian album anniversary tour, Bloc Party followed up two years later with A Weekend in the City, which peaked at #2 on both the UK and ARIA Albums Chart, spawning the global hit ‘The Prayer’.

Despite several personal changes over the journey, with the current lineup of founding members, vocalist and guitarist Kele Okereke and guitarist and programmer Russell Lissack, joined by bassist Harry Deacon and drummer Louise Bartle, Bloc Party have cemented their legacy with a diverse, hit-filled catalogue of songs and performances at some of the most prestigious venues and festivals across the globe.

Bloc Party’s Anatomy Of A Brief Romance is out Friday 11 September via cOnTAGIOUS LTD/Mushroom Music. Pre-order here. ‘Coming On Strong’ is out now. Listen here.
