It’s been a bit of a weird couple of months for rising local act Any Young Mechanic.
The art folk outfit, originally known as Wake In Fright (a homage to the iconic Aussie flick of the same name), was involved in a legal battle over naming rights with the Wake In Fright Trust. Looking to find common ground with the Trust, a deal was unable to be made, forcing the band to rename themselves.
Taking to Instagram to share the unfortunate news in January, the group released a short statement explaining the situation and revealing their new name: Any Young Mechanic.
Name change aside, nothing has altered musically for the band, with members Luka Kilgariff, Thea Martin, Allan McBean, Jachin Mee and Sam Wilson getting on with things by announcing their first shows of 2025.
