Still basking in the praise after the release of her acclaimed sophomore EP Cry About It, Adelaide favourite aleskiash has surprised fans with new single ‘Punch Drunk Love’.
Arriving ahead of aleksiah’s UK and European tour that kicks off in November, ‘Punch Drunk Love’ is a buoyant, ‘80s-inspired synth pop sparkler with a fun music video to boot.
“‘Punch Drunk Love’ came out of an interaction I had with a friend, it was their birthday and they wanted to go dancing to celebrate at a really popular queer club in my hometown,” aleksiah shares. “A week earlier, I had just gotten diagnosed with depression, so a lot was happening, and as much as I loved my friend, I didn’t really feel like dancing.”
She continues, “The song is about trying to be happy and perhaps even find love when you just feel like the world is crumbling under your feet. When my producer Chris and I came to recording it, we wanted to make it really lighthearted and silly, and the 80s aerobics movement immediately came to mind, because you see one of those Jane Fonda workout tapes and it just makes you want to move. It might be a pretty niche experience, but I know everyone’s felt uncomfortable in the club before, so I want people to listen to this song and find comfort in this shared feeling we all have.”
The accompanying music video is directed by Conor Mercury and is what aleksiah calls “my ode to the *ss shakers & ssri-takers, enjoy!!” Check it out below.

Since the release of her debut single ‘Fern’, aleksiah has gone from rising star to fully fledged pop phenomenon. Not only was she named triple j Unearthed’s tenth most played artist of 2024, but the ‘Batsh*t’ and ‘Clothes Off’ singer took home four gongs at the 2024 South Australian Music Awards.
The momentum has continued this year, with aleksiah recently completing a national tour in support of Cry About It. The singer-songwriter also headed overseas for the first time earlier this year for a massive run of UK and European shows, which included supporting Beth McCarthy, performing at Primavera Pro in Barcelona and selling out concerts in London.
With Australian artist management company Chugg Music (Lime Cordiale, Teenage Dads) and Copenhagen-based Stellar Music (James Blake, Maximillian) behind her, the world is aleksiah’s musical oyster.
