Congrats on your upcoming single ‘Phoebe’. What does this song mean to you?
Thank you so much! ‘Phoebe’ is a very upbeat but emotional song and we were all experiencing pretty different things at the time we wrote it, so it has become a very special one to us. When we play it live as well the crowd interaction is amazing, so it definitely means a lot to us that we can share moments like that with our fans through our music. I think it’s safe to say ‘Phoebe’ has become one of our favourites.
The track is a slight change of pace from your usual fast-loud punk sound. What motivated this move?
At its core, ‘Phoebe’ is a heartbreak song, so it is very personal. We wanted to keep that same upbeat energy that we’re known for but I suppose it felt necessary to slow things down and personalise the lyrics to better convey the emotions that were felt during the writing of the song. The bridge section at the end into the final chorus, I think. perfectly highlights the balance of energy and emotion we wanted it to have, TV Therapy, but more raw and vulnerable
You’re taking to Jive on August 22. What should audiences expect from your set?
You can definitely expect the same on-stage energy and antics, but with some surprises along the way. We’ve got some new songs we haven’t played yet that we’re excited to get in the set list, we love to get the crowd involved too so we’ll be doing some giveaways on the night. We’ve also been working on some visual stuff behind the scenes too, but you’ll have to come along on the night to find out more about that.
The Fuss and Destinezia are on support. What are they adding to the evening?
We wanted to go with a more indie rock sound/theme for the night being the Single Launch for ‘Phoebe’, so The Fuss and Destinezia were the ones that came to mind for us. Destinezia has that really authentic indie rock sound with deeper lyrics and The Fuss really bring a fun upbeat twist to indie rock with their unique sound and upbeat energy. Both bands have awesome stage presence live as well and we can’t wait to play with them again!
This is the last single TV Therapy are releasing before dropping your sophomore EP. What should fans expect from this new chapter of TV Therapy?
Expect the TV Therapy sound you’ve all come to know and hopefully love, but one thing we want to continue to do is showcase the versatility in our music through our mix of genres. We’re trying out some new things while still bringing the same energy of our own authentic sound. We’re really excited about this next lot of songs and the potential of what this next chapter can bring for us and our fans. We think it’s probably about time to take TV Therapy interstate too, so stay tuned for that.
