Congrats on your latest single, ‘Modern’, released in early March. Tell us about this track.

‘Modern’ is a track that encapsulates the essence of Sacrificial Larynx. It demonstrates the strengths and versatility of our sound.

Your debut album Model Citizen is set for release on the 15th of March. Why was now the right time to release a full-length project?

A lot of the songs on this LP have been in our set since the band’s conception. We’ve had so long to play these tracks, figure out what works and what doesn’t, and now we feel that we have these songs at their strongest!

What does the title tell us about the record?

With the all the bullshit going on in the world right now, the meaning of being a model citizen is being reworked. In the traditional sense, being a model citizen is about conforming, but our record challenges that idea.

You’ve been playing some of the tracks off the album since the creation of Sacrificial Larynx. Which songs have been day ones for you?

The opening track, ‘Need To Evolve’, has been our opener forever now. The one set we tried to play without starting with that song went terribly. ‘Stik’ has also been around since the start and has been a very trustworthy encore for us!

Sacrificial Larynx’s sound ranges from grungy, slow tracks to fast, heavy nu metal songs. What draws you to these expansive genres?

It’s a culmination of all three members’ influences, each of us have had pretty varying musical backgrounds, and in a strange way they meld really well together. We also don’t want to get bogged down into one sound - that would get boring.

You’re celebrating the album release with a launch at Lion Arts Factory on March 21. What can we expect from your set?

You’ll have to come and find out!

You’ve tapped reggae punk act Loose Units and hardcore outfit FREEGOLF for the night. What made them the perfect fit for this show?

Both of those bands are bloody wicked! We’ve played with both in the past, and it’s pretty inspiring seeing them put on masterclasses in engaging with the crowd! We feel as though they bring a very unique energy to their sets!

What songs off the record are you expecting to hit well with the crowd?

We have this one song called ‘Blemish’, we’ve purposefully held off on playing it live so that when it comes out, people can experience it fresh. It’s a very strong song, and we think that it will be a sneaky hit!

Sacrificial Larynx are celebrating the release of their LP Model Citizen on March 21 at Lion Arts Factory. Tickets on sale at moshtix.com.au.
