Iconic Aussie alt-rockers You Am I are being inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame this year.
Best known for their #1 albums Hi Fi Way, Hourly, Daily and #4 Record, the current lineup of frontman and guitarist Tim Rogers, bassist Andrew Kent, guitarist Davey Lane and drummer Russell Hopkinson will be inducted at this year’s ARIA Awards ceremony at Sydney’s Hordern Pavilion, on Gadigal land, on Wednesday 19 November.
The ten-time ARIA Award winners are deserving recipients of the Hall of Fame, having helped shape the Aussie alternative scene throughout the ‘90s. Across their storied career, You Am I have released 11 studio albums, scored 14 songs in triple j’s Hottest 100 countdown and performed hundreds of shows across the world.
ARIA CEO, Annabelle Herd, said: “Australia has witnessed You Am I shape the course of modern rock music with their unmistakable sound, honed by live shows across the length and breadth of the country and beyond. With 10 ARIA Awards, multiple chart-topping albums, and a legacy that has inspired countless musicians, You Am I is one of the finest live acts this country has produced, fuelled in equal parts by the explosive musical chemistry between the band and Tim Rogers’ era-defining songwriting.
“It’s the songs that have really sealed the deal on making You Am I a band for the ages. Tim Rogers’ ability to nail a universal feeling with a couple of seemingly throwaway lines, through that uniquely Australian lens, is one of the reasons that You Am I’s music – including ARIA #1s Hi Fi Way, Hourly Daily and #4 Record are held so close to fans’ hearts. We are thrilled to be welcoming one of Australia’s most influential and enduring bands into the ARIA Hall of Fame.”
On behalf of the band, frontman Tim Rogers said: “We are bemused, flattered and surprised to be asked to sit at the parents table. The artists in the Hall have had musical adventures of grandeur and righteous acclaim. Our trail of desperation seems more haphazard and with less dazzle. Yet we are giddy and grateful to feel recognition from the music community. We’ll see you out there on the road of endless possibilities.”

Originally formed way back in 1989 and consisting of vocalist and guitarist Tim Rogers, his brother Jaimme on drums and bassist Nick Tischler, You Am I became the talk of the town during the mid-90s with the release of their landmark albums Hi Fi Way, Hourly, Daily and #4 Record.
Released between 1995-1998, all three records reached #1 on the ARIA Album Chart and showcased You Am I’s blend of garage rock, pop hooks and Aussie storytelling, with songs focusing on the everyday life of those in the suburbs.
