Named after Harry Dean Stanton’s character from the film Paris, Texas, Travis became one of the biggest bands of 1999 with the release of their sophomore album, The Man Who.
The album spent nine weeks at the top of the UK Albums Chart and has gone on to sell over 3.5 million copies worldwide. The Man Who spawned hit singles ‘Why Does It Always Rain On Me?’, ‘Turn’, ‘Driftwood’ and ‘Writing To Reach You’, and won the band two BRIT Awards.
Travis followed up with 2001’s The Invisible Band, which sold more copies in four weeks than The Man Who did in six months, helped now doubt by the worldwide hit, ‘Sing’.
While Travis have failed to reach the commercial peak of their second and third albums in recent years, they continue to release music on the regular. Last year saw the release of their tenth studio album, L.A. Times, which received glowing reviews from the music press.
Catch Travis at Hindley Street Music Hall on Monday 12 January. For ticketing info, head to livenation.com.au.
