A decade on since their last LP, Melbourne rockers The Temper Trap return with new album Sungazer, out now via Mushroom Music/Virgin Music Group.
The album arrives four years after the quartet took an extended hiatus, reuniting and heading straight to the studio, with Sungazer the end product of these recording sessions.
A riff-heavy collection of 11 tracks influenced by the band’s early years, along with the current state of the world, the record features the previously released singles ‘Into the Wild’, ‘Sungazer’, ‘These Arms’ and ‘Kuru’, along with the focus track ‘Runaways’, a reverb lovers dream drawing from frontman Dougy Mandagi’s Indonesian upbringing and trying to find your role in the world.
“We wanted to make a statement and create the record we've always wanted to make — music that is authentically us, as we are today. We’re so proud of this record, and it’s been incredible to be back in the studio and on stages together again,” says The Temper Trap.
The band are taking Sungazer on the road this September, getting things underway with two hometown shows at Melbourne’s The Forum on Thursday 10 and Friday 11 September. The band then makes a stop in Brisbane for a Night At The Parkland on Saturday 12 September, followed by headline performances at Hindley Street Music Hall in Adelaide on Wednesday 16 September and Sydney’s Night At The Barracks on Friday 18 September, wrapping things up with a final show at ICF: Warehouse in Perth on Friday 9 October.

Formed in 2005 by vocalist and guitarist Dougy Mandagi, guitarist Lorenzo Sillitto (replaced by Joseph Greer), bassist Jonathon Aherne and drummer Toby Dundas, The Temper Trap found themselves performing at Laneway Festival a year later, leading to them being signed to Michael Gudinski's label, Liberation Music.
They released their debut album Condidition in 2009, which peaked at #9 on the ARIA Albums Chart but received rave reviews from critics and spawned the monster singles ‘Sweet Disposition’, ‘Fader’ and ‘Love Lost’.
The Temper Trap (2012) and Thick As Thieves (2016), which both debuted at #1 on the ARIA Albums Chart, followed, before the band took a three-year hiatus.
Currently supporting Muse on their North American tour, The Temper Trap are also playing several festivals before returning home for the highly anticipated Australian tour this September.
