Returning earlier this year with ‘Goanna’, indie rockers The Rubens have shared their second release of 2026, the vulnerable ditty ‘Are You Getting High’.
An honest reflection on the end of a relationship that was never meant to last, ‘Are You Getting High’ is a groovy heartbreaker fans of the band will love.
Discussing the track, keyboardist Elliott Margin explains that the protagonist’s ex has “moved on and found someone new, and you’re happy for them. Kind of. Not really. But maybe soon, and that’s ok.”
He adds, “This song was buried in the pile of demos stored in the cloud somewhere above our heads. Some songs stay there forever, but this one managed to escape. We love it and are glad it finally made it out.”
‘Are You Getting High’ is accompanied by a music video that was filmed at the Camden Show by Mikey Conlon.
According to the press release, the clip depicts Sam Margin as the protagonist of the song, “alone and deep in thought as he reflects on a past relationship, while surrounded by a bustling crowd.” Check it out below.
