Emerging Magan-djin/Brisbane-based singer-songwriter Lottie McLeod has announced the release of her upcoming The Boat House EP and shared latest single ‘Sunburnt’.
Arriving Friday 25 September via ABC Music, The Boat House EP is a collection of seven deeply personal coming-of-age tracks that weave through genres such as pop, folk and indie.
Named after the Manly Boathouse on Quandamooka Country, the EP was produced and recorded across two studios in Australia and the USA. McLeod worked with Caleb Wright (Samia, Charly Bliss, Hippo Campus) at North Carolina's Stadium Heights Sound on the land of the Catawba, Cheraw, Eno, Occaneechi, Shakori, Tuscarora and Lumbee peoples and at 4000 Studios in Magand-jin/Brisbane on Turrbal/Jagera Country with Josh Beattie.
Each track on the record is inspired by a relationship from the past two years of McLeod’s life, with ‘Sunburnt’ a song about wanting someone who isn’t right for you. Written on her bedroom floor, ‘Sunburnt’ is on the poppier side, with ‘doo doo doo’s” and a glorious saxophone cameo from Jame Prendergast that adds another layer to McLeod’s raw and honest storytelling.
“‘Sunburnt’ is about a person I was seeing for not even a month; I felt such a strong connection with this person, but I also hardly knew him,” says McLeod of her new single.
“I had just gotten back from a beach day with my mum, a little sunburnt - I'm a sucker for metaphor. I liked this guy. A LOT. Talking every day, dates, future planning, dinner with the parents. Our last date was the closest I had ever felt to him - I spent the night and the next morning he asked to go to breakfast that weekend, where he ended things.
“I was so disappointed and confused. I really wanted to know him on a deeper level, see his ugly side, have some sort of future with him. He never gave me a chance to show him how beautiful it could’ve been, but I knew it was something I just had to let go because there was nothing to hold on to. There was this self-reflection at the time, asking myself, “Why would I try to win back a stranger… That would be silly!” - I wrote this song instead.”

Since the release of her first single in 2023, McLeod has quickly established herself as one to watch. Inspired by the likes of Lizzy McAlpine, Phoebe Bridgers and Ethel Cain, McLeod was the recipient of the Billy Thorpe Scholarship in 2024 and took home Emerging Artist of the Year at the Queensland Music Awards in 2025.
Last year also saw McLeod perform as part of triple j’s 50th birthday show on Yugambeh Country/Gold Coast alongside the likes of Mallrat, Jem Cassar-Daley, Darcie Haven, before signing with ABC Music earlier this year, joining labelmates Emily Wurramara, Playlunch and more.
The release of The Boat House EP ushers in the next chapter of McLeod’s fledgling career and shapes as one of the most exciting releases of 2026.
