The Black Sorrows are one of Australia’s greatest blues rock acts, and to celebrate the band’s 40th anniversary, they’ve released new double album, The Quintessential Black Sorrows.
Since guitarist and vocalist Joe Camilleri founded The Black Sorrows in 1984, the band has released a slew of multi-platinum albums, sold over three million records worldwide, and won two ARIA Awards.
Responsible for classic tracks including ‘Harley & Rose’, ‘Chained To The Wheel’, ‘Hold On To Me’ and ‘Never Let Me Go’, The Black Sorrows’ new compilation features 21 tracks spanning their entire career.
The Black Sorrows are currently touring the country in support of the release. After selling out dates across New South Wales from August to October, the band continues with more shows in New South Wales, along with gigs in Queensland, Victoria, South Australia, Western Australia, and Tasmania from November until April.
Tickets for all shows are available via theblacksorrows.com.au.

After his first band Jo Jo Zep and The Falcons broke up, Joe Camilleri started The Black Sorrows, a blues-infused rock act with like-minded musicians.
The band, which includes Camilleri’s writing partner Nick Smith, performed locally around Melbourne and released several independent albums before Dear Children turned The Black Sorrows from an emerging act to a bona fide headline act.
The band signed to CBD/Sony and dropped their classic album Hold On to Me in 1988, which included The Black Sorrows’ highest charting single, ‘Chained to the Wheel’. The group at that time consisted of Camilleri, Jeff Burstin, Wayne Burt, George Butrumlis and sisters Linda and Vika Bull, and is often referred to as the “classic” Sorrows lineup.
The Black Sorrows have gone on to release a whopping 20 albums and performed all across the globe, averaging 150 shows per year since 2014. The newest version of The Black Sorrows, which includes Claude Carranza (guitar/vocals), Mark Gray (bass/vocals), James Black (keyboards/vocals) and Tony Floyd (drums) alongside Camilleri, are performing all their biggest tracks across the nation as part of the Quintessential Black Sorrows national tour.
