The Grogans dropped their much-anticipated fifth record, Stagger, last week (May 23), and to celebrate, the lads are hitting the road this August.
The surf rock trio’s latest long player takes from a wide range of influences and includes the previously released singles ‘Oh Boy’, ‘In My Heart’, ‘Roundabout’ and ‘Social Cue’. Exploring themes of love, mental health and looking after yourself, the record was mixed and engineered while the band were on tour across the US and Canada last winter.
"Mixing on the road definitely added something different to this album. Usually, I’m in the same spot whilst mixing and can come and go from each track mentally, but this time the album was attached to us at the hip,” The Grogan’s Quin Grunden explains.
“We would bring a set up through most of America and record/mix in green rooms and on the bandwagon. It was definitely worth it, as we had to work with what we had to finish the album. Only being able to reference mixes on headphones and JBL speakers towards the end of the album process was definitely harder than in a studio. However, as a band, we have never really been able to sit still, so it worked nicely. Each mix has its own personality, and I guess that’s what we wanted for this staggered album.”
The Grogans Stagger tour begins in Eora/Sydney at Metro Theatre on Friday, August 1 and continues with dates at Meanjin/Brisbane’s The Tivoli on Saturday, August 2, Boorloo/Perth’s The Rechabite on Friday, August 8, and Tarndanya/Adelaide’s The Gov on Saturday, August 9. The final three gigs include an 18+ show at 170 Russell in Naarm/Melbourne on Friday, August 15, a show at Republic Bar in Nipaluna/Hobart on Friday, August 22, and an all-ages finale at Naarm/Melbourne’s Northcote Social Club on Saturday, August 30.
Joining The Grogans on tour are Caitlin Harnett & The Pony Boys (except the all-ages show).
Tickets go on sale Wednesday, May 28, at 9:30am local time via thegrogansband.com.
