After a seven year absence, American emo alt-rockers The Get Up Kids are heading Down Under to celebrate the 25th anniversary of their seminal album, Something to Write Home About.
The dynamic five-piece’s sophomore album was scene-defining and thrust The Get Up Kids into the spotlight. Widely acclaimed and influential, Something To Write Home About spawned the singles ‘Ten Minutes’ and ‘Action & Action’ and was given the remastered treatment last year.
The special edition double vinyl (order here) features the original pressing remastered by Joe LaPorta at Sterling Sound with a second vinyl of demos and rarities. It also comes with an impressive revamped jacket artwork and a 28-page full colour booklet featuring handwritten lyrics, photos, and other ephemera from the era.
“KABOOM! We are excited to announce that we got more tour dates for you! It’s been 6 years since we’ve been back to Japan, Australia & Hawaii and it will be our first time playing in Singapore & Indonesia,” The Get Up Kids announced on Instagram. “So we are absolutely pumped to play Something to Write Home About in its entirety at these places!”
On the Australian leg of The Get Up Kids’ 25 Years of Something to Write Home About, the band are performing the record in its entirety along with fan favourites in four capital cities. Commencing the tour in Sydney at Oxford Arts Academy on Thursday, September 11, the emo greats then hit Adelaide’s Lion Arts Factory on Friday, September 12 and Melbourne’s The Corner Hotel on Saturday, September 20, before wrapping things up at Brisbane’s Crowbar on Sunday, September 21.
Tickets go on sale today at 11:30am local time via thegetupkids.com.

Across 30 years, The Get Up Kids have solidified themselves as one of the forefathers of the emo genre. Having released six studio albums, including 1999’s Something to Write Home About, the band gained a worldwide fanbase with their punchy, Midwest emo sound that influenced everyone from Fall Out Boy to My Chemical Romance.
The current lineup of lead vocalist and guitarist Matt Pryor, guitarist Jim Suptic, bassist Rob Pope and drummer Ryan Pope, alongside recent addition keyboardist Dustin Kinsey, are looking forward to performing Something to Write Home About in full for Aussie fans.
“Anybody can start a band when you're 20 and go on tour and have a couple of years of fun with that. But what it became, at least to us, is the reason that we can still do this now,” says Pryor. “We are doing this as a celebration, and we're going to have a party every night on stage.”
