Sydney alt-rockers The Buoys are back with melodic new single ‘Bitch’.
The band’s first release of 2025 was recorded with producer Chris Collin at his Byron Bay studio and details an encounter lead singer and guitarist Zoe Catterall had on the way to the studio session.
“I wrote this one with a good friend of mine, Alistair Hayes. That day I was dealing with the classic case of ‘they’ll call you a bitch cause it’s easier than taking accountability for their actions’ type scenario, and I was trying my best to stay positive, but on my way to the session I got a comfort food snack and had a very light car prang while doing so…
“I ate my hash browns and had a cry in the car park before heading to the session lol, and what resulted was this beautiful chaotic song about being called a bitch, which is obviously not a fun time, but I’m so glad the song is really fun in spite of that.”
In support of the single, The Buoys are heading out on the road, announcing five shows across the country. Kicking off at Perth’s Rosemount Hotel on Friday 28 November, The Buoys hit Adelaide’s Lion Arts Factory on Saturday 29 November, Melbourne’s 170 Russell on Thursday 18 December, Sydney’s Manning Bar on Friday 19 December and Brisbane’s Crowbar on Saturday 20 December.

Forming in 2016, The Buoys went through several lineup changes during the early days of the band, settling on the current iteration of Zoe Catterall (rhythm guitar/lead vocals), Hilary Geddes (lead guitar), Courtney Cunningham (bass guitar) and Tess Wilkin (drums) in 2019.
The band have released three extended plays – Soft Boy (2017), All This Talking Gets Us Nowhere (2020) and Unsolicited Advice for Your DIY Disaster (2021) – and dropped their debut album Lustre in 2024.
Produced by Chris Collins (Middle Kids, Royal Otis, Hollow Coves) and mastered by George Georgiadis (The Vanns, Pist Idiots, Skeggs), Lustre was called a “cathartic debut” by NME, who also wrote that the album “showcases Zoe Catterall’s ability to fold punchy commentary into compact guitar rock.”
The Buoys are gearing up for a run of shows across Europe in September before returning home for their Bitch Single Tour.
