Following the surprise release of Teenager’s first single in over 15 years, the mesmerising ‘A.A.’, the band have shared another new track, ‘Sail the Seas’.
Another blast of mid-00’s indie dance from the duo of Nick Littlemore (PNAU, Empire of the Sun) and Pip Brown (Ladyhawke), ‘Sail the Seas’ is a groove-laden spark of nostalgia that’s sure to get you up and dancing along.
The track is taken from Teenager’s upcoming new project, Fourteen, due out later this year.
“Nick came over and we pretty much wrote ‘Sail The Seas’ in a day,” explains Ladyhawke. “We were writing it for an ad or something and then we loved the song so much it ended up becoming a Teenager song, which I’m very, very glad about. Formed in 2004 by Littlemore and Brown, Teenager recorded their debut album, 13, over three years in studios across the globe, including Sydney, London, Paris and New York.
The album featured an array of big-time guests, with Sonic Youth’s Lee Ranaldo and Steve Shelley on guitar and drums respectively, alongside session muso Thierry Muller on synths. Littlemore also roped in Sleepy Jackson’s Luke Steele, The Presets’ Kim Moyes and the iconic Rowland S. Howard to contribute to the record.
13 was a minor hit and produced the singles ‘Alone Again’ and ‘Pony’. Since its release in 2006, both Littlemore and Brown have gone on to have great success with other musical projects.
Littlemore teamed up with the aforementioned Steele and formed Empire of the Sun, one of the biggest electronic acts on the planet, who are responsible for the chart smash ‘Walking On A Dream’.
Brown was no slouch, breaking through as a solo artist under the moniker Ladyhawke, with her self-titled debut album coming in at #1 on the New Zealand Album Chart. She’s since released three more albums and continues to perform both here and in NZ.
