ARIA award-winning musician Josh Pyke and AWG award-winning comedian Cameron James, in collaboration with MIK, have come together to discuss their love of music for the new podcast series, Pump Up the Jams.
Each episode features the long-time mates and self-confessed music obsessives exploring the tracks that defined generations, from the ‘80s, ‘90s and early 2000s.
Many of the episodes are split into two sides like a record, with the A Side breaking down the track in detail and the impact it had, and the B Side featuring an exclusive interview with the artists behind said song.
That’s what you get with the first two episodes (both available now wherever you listen to your favourite podcasts), with the A Side exploring the story behind Wheatus’ 2000 smash hit ‘Teenage Dirtbag’ and the B Side featuring a chat with the band’s founder and frontman, Brendan B. Brown.
Taking to social media to reveal their first podcast guest, the duo wrote: “Brendan B. Brown (that’s Triple B to us) from @wheatusofficial was an absolute legend. Such a warm and generous guy to chat with. Huge musical knowledge, could have chatted about Soundgarden for about 12 hours. This was an amazing way to kick off the pod!”
The pair have also revealed a future episode includes a deep dive into Right Said Fred’s surprise 1991 chart topper ‘I’m Too Sexy’, with the band revealing an unexpected story behind the song’s origin.
What sets Pump Up the Jams apart from similar music podcasts is the chemistry Pyke and James have, along with the meticulous research the duo have done to flesh out the story and impact behind every song featured.
The release of Pump Up the Jams comes after Pyke recently announced an Australian tour celebrating the 20th anniversary of his mini-album Feeding the Wolves, while James is also performing shows across the country.
