Acclaimed local muso Shaun Holton is launching his fourth album, The Purple Book, at The Jade later this month.
The gig not only coincides with the release of The Purple Book, but also marks 20 years of Holton performing live, along with the vocalist turning 40!
Inspired by Carl Jung’s Red Book, Holton describes The Purple Book as a “scrapbook of healing and integration,” exploring growth, connection and love across a collection of progressive folk pop tracks.
“There are little nods to Steven Wilson, Opeth, Filter, Hans Zimmer, and Fink,” Holton continues. “But largely, this album has been a deep experience. I grabbed hold of some of the threads I wasn’t ready to deal with and pulled them up and out, and I have let it unravel and be what it is, with less getting in my own way.”
Holton will be accompanied by his band, comprising guitarist and vocalist Cat Louise, guitarist Chris Lau, bassist Shannon Brinsley and drummer Luke Whelan, when he takes the stage at The Jade on Friday October 24.
Support comes from rising stars Monya and Priyanka Luxx.

He appeared on The Voice Australia in 2021 and where he performed ‘Til Summer Comes Around’ with Keith Urban, fronted progressive rockers Southern Empire, which saw him voted as the top Prog Rock Vocalist of 2023, and performed as part of triubte concerts Rocketman Orchestrated with the Southern Cross Symphony, Farnsey at Adelaide Fringe and the Led Zeppelin spectacular Physical Graffiti Live in Concert at this year’s Adelaide Guitar Festival.
Holton has also collaborated with a slew of awesome artists, including Priyanka Luxx and Max Cruise, and performed in massive venues such as the Adelaide Entertainment Centre and Festival Theatre, to intimate pubs across the country.
His upcoming album launch at The Jade is a great way to hear his new music and bask in the talent of one of SA’s unsung singer-songwriters.
