Presented in partnership with the City of Adelaide and the South Australian Music Hall of Fame, the showcase highlights the artists, venues and history that have shaped SA’s distinctive sound.
On display are rare artefacts from the collection of radio legend David ‘Daisy’ Day, archival material from the State Library of South Australia, a collection of guitars, historic sound equipment and gig photography. Honour boards spotlight icons across genres — from Cold Chisel, The Angels, and No Fixed Address, to Paul Kelly, Sister Janet Mead, and Three D Radio.
“We’re thrilled that part of our important work and memorabilia is to be presented in a new location over the next twelve months,” says Gary Burrows, Committee Member, SA Music Hall of Fame.
“The Adelaide Town Hall’s rich history aligns perfectly with the Hall of Fame’s mission to recognise the success of our musical greats. But it’s more than a tribute, it’s a living record that honours past legends and opens a new chapter inspiring the next generations.”

The exhibition also marks Adelaide’s 10-year milestone as Australia’s only UNESCO City of Music, reinforcing the city’s deep connection to musical culture.
Founded in 2009 by Adelaide radio icons John Vincent and David Day, the South Australian Music Hall of Fame has recognised over 160 individuals, 24 bands, and 17 venues for their contribution to the state’s music scene.
Lord Mayor Dr Jane Lomax-Smith said that the Council was proud to partner with the dedicated volunteers at the South Australian Music Hall of Fame to share South Australia’s music heritage and inspire the next generation of music makers. “
Adelaide is a city with music as its heartbeat – home to thriving independent artists, iconic venues, and a dynamic industry,” says Lomax-Smith. “Welcoming tens of thousands of music lovers every year, the Adelaide Town Hall is the perfect place to learn more about the achievements of South Australia’s talented music community,” she said.
This exhibition offers a rare chance to explore South Australia’s musical legacy up close — from the pioneers and hitmakers to the underground scenes and community champions that continue to shape our sound.
