Emerging Queensland indie surf ratbags Vlads have shared their debut EP, World Domination (listen here).
Chronicling the band’s rapid rise over the last 12 months, World Domination features eight infectious tracks and was recorded over two periods with two different producers last year.
While the EP’s title is tongue-in-cheek, when listening to World Domination, there’s no doubt Vlads have stumbled upon a winning formula with their sun-soaked melodies and catchy hooks that are hard to shake.
The process of writing and recording the EP brought the band – vocalist Kai Vladusic, drummer Callum Watson, bassist Edin Duke and guitarist Matthew Norrish – closer together, with Duke taking a greater role in the songwriting and Norrish and Watson expanding their creative influence on Vlads’ sound.
Each member of the group gets their chance to shine across the eight tracks, with highlights including opener ‘Puppet Master’, the cathartic rock pop of ‘Octopus’ and rollicking ‘Sand In My Suitcase’, a song that’s become a live favourite and was almost left off the EP, with Vladusic fighting for its inclusion.
