Just a couple of weeks out from the second edition of Adelaide’s two-day music and arts festival Porch & Recreation, organisers have revealed more additions to the bill.

Held at the state heritage-listed Burnside venue, The Burnside Ballroom, this year’s festival takes place on Friday 12 and Saturday 13 June with an eclectic lineup of incredible performers spanning international, national and local artists and DJs.

Friday is headlined by American jazz multi-instrumentalist Kahil El'Zabar’s Ethnic Heritage Ensemble, which was founded in 1973 by El'Zabar and whose members have included legends such as Kalaparusha Maurice McIntyre, Defunkt's Joseph Bowie and Ernest Dawkins. Also taking to the stage will be ‘80s-influenced rock meets synth Bunhungura/Gapuwiyak project Drifting Clouds, Naarm/Melbourne collective The Pro-Teens, performing the music of MF Doom, and indie-folk project Jack Davies Trio.

The good times keep rolling on Saturday, with Aussie-based neo-soul performer Kaiit tapped to headline alongside Naarm/Melbourne house music icon DJ Jnett, American jazz-inspired indie rocker Mei Semones, ‘60s pop-influenced artist Way Dynamic and underground ambient electronic act GODTET all performing. Local singer-songwriter Ella Ion and multi-disciplinary collective The Bait Fridge (live set) are also appearing.

Along with all the big names, organisers have also announced a stack of awesome DJs who’ll be spinning tracks throughout the night, with College of Knowledge, Company, Pink Moon Saloon, Jacqui Bourne, Jimidawg, honeydripper, Jet Black Cat and the lads at Daybed Records all behind the decks.

Sadly, London-based French-Senegalese singer-songwriter Anaiis has been forced to cancel her appearance at the festival due to unforeseen circumstances. In a short statement, she revealed that the “decision was not made lightly. I was truly looking forward to finally performing for you all, but at this time I need to prioritise my family & myself during this time, so that I can return to touring in the best possible conditions.” You can read the full statement here.

Run by local legend Sharni Honor, the owner of Porch Records, Porch & Recreation is more than just a music festival, with a curated program of visual art installations, a pop-up record store, a cocktail lounge and top-notch local food and beverage vendors, including Parwana Afghan Kitchen and Peel St Restaurant.

Speaking about the creation of the festival, Honor says, “We live and breathe music. And just want to do all we can to bring it to the people. It is our purpose, and it pushes us to create things of beauty for the community.”

If this year’s event is anything like last year’s, which featured the likes of UK artist Mount Kimbie alongside Surprise Chef, Emma Donovan, Grace Cummings, Alexander Flood and more, music lovers can expect two days of audio bliss with a community vibe.

Porch & Recreation takes place at Burnside Ballroom on Friday 12 and Saturday 13 June. Tickets on sale now at porchrecords.com.au.
