Adelaide plays host to a new festival over the final weekend of May – Porch & Recreations.
The brainchild of Porch Records head honcho Sharni Honor, Porch & Recreations has been described as “a festival of music discovery” and will be held at the iconic Burnside Ballroom on Saturday, May 31 and Sunday, June 1.
Established in partnership with Hotel Alba & City of Burnside, the two-day event features both international and Australian acts and promises to be a celebration of great music and community.
So far, the lineup features cinematic groovers Surprise Chef headlining the Saturday night alongside award-winning Indigenous singer and songwriter Emma Donovan, while the Sunday bill is topped by a DJ set from UK duo Mount Kimbie and a performance from singer/songwriter Grace Cummings.
Also performing at Porch & Recreation are rising soul musician Ella Thompson and pop polymath Dainis Lacey’s project Cool Sounds, with more acts to be announced in the coming weeks.

Although this year marks the inaugural Porch & Recreation, there is hope the event can become an annual fixture on the South Australian live music calendar moving forward.
Founder Sharni Honor has been at the centre of the local scene since curating backyard festivals across the country under the Porch Records banner in 2019.
Porch Records has expanded to include a creative space, Summertown Studio, and a record store specialising in jazz, funk, soul and international grooves.
The creation of Porch & Recreation is the next step in Porch Recrods evolution and one we should all get around an support if we want the local scene to thrive.
