Aussie fav Matt Corby has surprised fans with the release of his emotional new single, ‘Long and Short’.
Released via Island Records Australia/UMA, the track was written with renowned activist and performer/writer Shungudzo. Corby’s first solo release since his 2023 album Everything’s Fine explores grief and the feelings that arise when accepting the loss of someone close.
“Recently someone very close to me passed away from pancreatic cancer and it was very tragic for everyone around me,” Corby shared in a statement.
“The process of mourning has been long and tough, during which you are involuntarily hit with an influx of questions about our mortality and the way we choose to experience this moment we call life. This song is paying homage to the journey one embarks on (hopefully there is one) after they pass away and wishes those on that journey safe passage to their next great adventure.
“I hope you can take the time to listen and enjoy or cry maybe... it's up to you."
‘Long and Short’ is accompanied by a music video compiled of footage shot by Corby using his Super 8 film camera, giving fans a glimpse into his everyday life with his family at his home in Rainbow Valley.

The release of ‘Long and Short’ comes as Corby prepares to hit the road supporting Atlanta crooner Teddy Swims on his upcoming I’ve Tried Everything But Therapy Tour.
“I’m such a fan of Teddy. I first heard ‘Lose Control’ on the radio while driving from the airport to a show, was completely floored by his vocal chops and the soul in his sound,” says Corby.
“I’ve been hooked ever since. We first met at his Sydney show last year: Teddy came up, gave me a big hug, and told me he’d been listening to my music since high school, which just blew my mind. After his set, we hung out, talked music, and joked about starting a boy band one day. Being invited to join him on this run of shows is a real honour. I can’t wait!”
Swims, who is touring with his band Freak Freely, has already sold out six of his ten arena shows across Australia this October. The good news for local music lovers is that limited tickets are still available for Swims’ Adelaide gig via frontiertouring.com.
